Enabling API Access
In order to use any third-party programs with Basecamp, you must first enable API access to your Basecamp account.
To enable API access, first navigate to your Dashboard, then click on the Account tab:

You will automatically be on the first tab, which is "Payment/Plans". If you scroll down on the page, you will see a section on the Basecamp API.

You should read and agree to the Terms of Service (they're short and worth reading) before checking the box and clicking the button. After you click the button, you will be able to use third-party software (like
Project Recon) to access your Basecamp account.
What if I don't see an API section?
First, verify that you are on your global account settings, by going back to your Dashboard and clicking on the Account tab. Verify that you are on the Payment/Plans tab.
If these things are true, and you don't see an API section, it means that you've already enabled API Access to your account.
Other Common Login Problems
If you are still having trouble logging into your account with Project Recon, access your account with a web browser the way you normally would. Look in the address bar of the browser and double-check that you are using the exact same address in Project Recon (look at the spelling and whether it starts with "http://" or "https://"). In Project Recon, you can change whether it uses "http://" or "https://" by checking or unchecking the SSL Encryption checkbox.
